After his schooling he served his country in the U.S. Army, Infantry Division from 1979 to 1981. After the service he returned to Barre where he was employed at Vermont Castings (Bethel Plant). His last employment was at the Green Mountain Roasters as a maintenance man, until his retirement, due to ill health.

A later burial will take place in St. Sylvester Cemetery in Lower Websterville.
